On Wednesday afternoon I made a spontaneous decision to head up to Squamish for a day or two, not realizing the last game of the Stanley Cup was happening in Vancouver. My timing was pretty bad, as I ended up passing through downtown in the midst of a drunken riot. But aside from seeing a plethora of police in full gear and a few staggering mobs, I emerged unscathed on the other side.
Kali and I spent a very long day running around the Grand Wall forest, trying many problems that were new to me. I'm continually impressed by two things in Squamish: the multitude of top-notch problems and the friendliness of the people. The standout problem that I tried was The Method, a hard slab / vert problem in the Apron boulders. Although the very top was wet, and seemingly devoid of holds, I was psyched to make it up pretty high in a few goes. Every other hard problem I tried spit me off without sympathy, so I focused on climbing a quantity of new moderates.
